A Japanese over-the-counter topical analgesic gel from Kowa's Vantelin line. Its active ingredient is indomethacin. Supplied in a 35 g tube.

Indications

Relief of muscle pain, joint pain, shoulder pain associated with stiff shoulders, lower back pain, tendovaginitis (hand/wrist pain), elbow pain (such as tennis elbow), bruises and sprains.

Ingredients & form

Gel for external use (tube). 1 g contains:
- Indometacin 10 mg (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic)
- l-Menthol 60 mg (cooling)
Additives: carboxyvinyl polymer, hypromellose, sodium edetate, sodium bisulfite, flavouring, diisopropanolamine, polyoxyethylene hydrogenated castor oil, propylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, diisopropyl adipate, isopropanol.

Dosage

Rub an appropriate amount into the affected area, up to 4 times a day.
Precautions related to dosage:
(1) Follow the directions.
(2) Children aged 11 and over should use it only under the supervision of a guardian.
(3) Do not use in children under 11.
(4) Keep away from the eyes. If it gets into the eyes, rinse at once with water or lukewarm water; if symptoms are severe, see an eye doctor.
(5) For external use only.
(6) Do not use more than 50 g per week.
(7) Do not cover the treated area with plastic wrap or anything else that does not breathe.
How to use the tube: the nozzle is sealed; before first use, push the spike on top of the cap straight into the nozzle to pierce the seal. The gel is soft and may spurt out if the tube is squeezed hard. After use, wipe the nozzle clean and close the cap tightly.

Warnings

Do not use:
1. Do not use this product if you:
- have ever had an allergic reaction to this product or any of its ingredients;
- have ever had asthma.
2. Do not apply to: the area around the eyes or mucous membranes; eczema, contact dermatitis or wounds; athlete's foot, ringworm or festering areas.
3. Do not use continuously for a long time.
Consult a doctor, pharmacist or registered seller before use if you:
- are under a doctor's care;
- are pregnant or may be pregnant;
- have ever had an allergic reaction to any medicine.
Stop use at once and consult a doctor, pharmacist or registered seller, bringing this leaflet, if after use the skin shows rash/redness, itching, swelling, stinging, a feeling of heat or dryness.
If symptoms do not improve after 5–6 days of use, stop use and consult a doctor, pharmacist or registered seller, bringing this leaflet.

Storage

(1) Store tightly closed in a cool place away from high temperatures and direct sunlight.
(2) Keep out of the reach of children.
(3) Do not transfer to another container (this may cause misuse or change the quality).
(4) Do not touch the eyes or other mucous membranes with hands that have the gel on them.
(5) Wash your hands after use.
(6) If it soils clothing or bedding, wash it off with water or detergent as soon as possible.
(7) It may damage metal (glasses, watches, accessories), clothing, plastics and painted surfaces of floors and furniture — keep it off them.
(8) Keep away from fire.
(9) Do not use after the expiry date (on the box and the tube).
