Description
This medicine is an inhaler that contains a steroid used to reduce airway inflammation and a long-acting bronchodilator used to relax the muscle in the airway.
Normally used for bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema) treatment for long-term control.
As far as asthma treatment goes, it is also used for relieving an asthma attack.
Ingredients and dosage form
Dosage form: white to pale yellowish white dry powder inhaler, (body) white, (revolving grip) red
Dosing schedule/Directions
Your dosing schedule must be prescribed by your doctor or a healthcare professional.
• Asthma
When used as maintenance therapy: In general, for adults, one inhalation (budesonide 160micro-g, formoterol fumarate hydrate 4.5micro-g), twice a day. It should be adjusted according to the symptom; however, the maximum dose is 4 inhalations at a time, twice a day, that means daily dose should not exceed 8 inhalations.
When used as reliever in addition to maintenance therapy: In general, for adults, one or two inhalations twice a day as usual dose, one inhalation should be taken in response to asthma attacks. If the attack persists after a few minutes, an additional inhalation should be taken. This is repeated as necessary, but not more than 6 inhalations should be taken on any single occasion. The maximum daily dose including maintenance dose and as-needed inhalations should be usually 8 inhalations in total, however a total daily dose of up to 12 inhalations can be used temporarily. However, if you use more than 8 inhalations in total in a day, consult with your doctor immediately.
Relief of various symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema): In general, for adults, two inhalations (budesonide 320micro-g, formoterol fumarate hydrate 9micro-g), twice a day.
Strictly follow the specified instructions in any cases.
• Read carefully, the instruction leaflet, "To Patients Using Symbicort Turbuhaler".
• After inhaling, gargle or rinse your mouth.
• Before starting this medicine, you see '30' in the counter window. A red mark comes down gradually after you continue to use. When the '0' has reached the middle of the window and doesn't proceed any more, it means finishing up of the inhaler, you must start using your new Turbuhaler.(The figure in the counter window indicates the approximate remaining numbers you can inhale.)
• If you are ordered to use this medicine on regular schedule and you miss a dose, inhale a dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never use two doses at one time.
• If you accidentally use more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
• If your symptom of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema) changes during the treatment course, consult with your doctor. Do not reduce, increase or stop inhaling this medicine without the instructions of your doctor even if you have no asthma symptoms and feel better.
