Description
This medicine acts on GABA receptors which are deeply involved in sleeping and helps you fall asleep easily. It also has an action to maintain sleep.
It is usually used in the treatment of insomnia.
Ingredients and dosage form
pale yellow tablet, diameter: 6.45 mm, thickness: 3.2 mm
Dosing schedule/Directions
Your dosing schedule must be prescribed by your doctor or a healthcare professional.
In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (2 mg of the active ingredient) at a time; and for elderly patients, take 1 mg of the active ingredient at a time; once daily, before bedtime. The dosage may be adjusted according to the symptoms, however, it is restricted to 3 mg of the active ingredient for adults, and 2 mg of the active ingredient for elderly patients. This tablet contains 2 mg of the active ingredient. Strictly follow the instructions.
Take the medicine just before bedtime. Do not take the medicine if you need to get up to do some work after sleeping for a few hours.
Do not take the medicine with food or immediately after meal.
If you miss a dose, take a dose when you have plenty of time until getting up on the next morning. You should never take two doses at one time.
If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.
Warnings
Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist
If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines or foods.
If you have: myasthenia gravis, acute angle-closure glaucoma or respiratory dysfunction (cor pulmonale, emphysema, bronchial asthma or acute phase of cerebrovascular disorder).
If you have heart diseases or brain disorder.
If you have experienced complex sleep behaviors (get up out of bed while not being fully awake and do an activity that you do not know you are doing) after taking LUNESTA.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Precautions while taking this medicine
You may experience sleepiness or loss of concentration on the next morning due to the effect of the medicine. Do not operate dangerous machinery such as a car.
Avoid drinking alcohol because it intensifies the effects of the medicine and may cause adverse effects.
If you are breastfeeding, avoid breastfeeding while taking this medicine.
Possible adverse reactions to this medicine
The most commonly reported adverse reactions include taste abnormality, sleepiness, headache, dry mouth, dizziness, pruritus and rash. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
hives, swelling of eyes and around lips and mouth, breathing difficulty [shock, anaphylaxis]
being unable to stand without taking the medicine; anxiety, abnormal dream, nausea, insomnia (due to withdrawal of the medicine) [dependence]
difficult to breathe, shortness of breath [respiratory depression]
yellowing in skin and white of eyes, general malaise, loss of appetite [hepatic dysfunction]
nightmare, depressed level of consciousness, excitement, confusion, hallucination, abnormal behavior during sleep [mental disorder, disturbed consciousness]
temporal memory loss, memory loss until falling asleep, being unable to remember events that occurred when you awake during sleep, twilight, inappropriate actions such as yelling or walking around during sleep [transient anterograde amnesia, twilight state, complex sleep behaviors (somnambulism etc.)]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.
Storing Conditions
Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
Discard the remainder. Do not store them. If you do not know how to discard them, ask the pharmacist or the medical institution. Do not give them to other people.
