Description
This medication primarily stimulates insulin secretion by acting on the pancreas. It is commonly used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Dosing schedule/Directions
Your dosing schedule must be prescribed by your doctor or a healthcare professional.
In general, the initial dose is started with 0.5-1mg of the active ingredient of daily. Take tablets once a day (before or after breakfast), or take tablets twice a day (before or after meals both in the morning and in the evening). The maintenance dosage is 1-4mg. The dosage may be adjusted as necessary. But daily dosage should not exceed 6mg. This preparation contains 3mg of the active ingredient in a tablet. Strictly follow the instructions.
If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.
Warnings
Before starting this medication, inform your doctor and pharmacist if you:
- Have previously experienced allergic reactions (e.g., itching, rash) to any medicines or foods.
- Have any of the following conditions: ketosis (e.g., nausea, sweet-smelling breath, deep breathing), infections, injuries, pituitary or adrenal gland dysfunction, irregular or inadequate food intake, urinary or genital infections, liver dysfunction.
- Are in a state of diabetic coma or precoma, undergoing surgery, extremely underweight, malnourished, debilitated, or engage in intense physical exercise. Heavy drinkers should also inform their healthcare provider.
- Have renal dysfunction or are on dialysis.
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking any other medications. (Some medicines may interact, potentially altering their effects. Be cautious with over-the-counter medicines, dietary supplements, and other prescriptions.)
Precautions While Taking This Medication
- Follow Dietary and Exercise Instructions: Adhere strictly to dietary and exercise recommendations.
- Monitor for Hypoglycemia: This medication may cause hypoglycemic symptoms. Exercise caution when working at heights or operating dangerous machinery, such as driving. If hypoglycemic symptoms occur, consume sugar or drink juice. If taking alpha-glucosidase inhibitors concurrently, use glucose for treatment.
- Watch for Ketosis: This medication may cause ketosis even with near-normal blood glucose levels. Patients with type 1 diabetes, reduced or stopped insulin, excessive carbohydrate restriction, inadequate food intake, or those experiencing infection or dehydration are at higher risk for ketoacidosis. Do not discontinue insulin injections if you have type 1 diabetes.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration, which may be caused by this medication. Do not reduce your water intake without medical advice.
- Discontinue if Needed: Stop taking the medication if you experience persistent diarrhea, vomiting, or an inability to consume food or water due to decreased appetite.
Possible Adverse Reactions
Common adverse reactions include frequent urination, excessive urination, constipation, dry mouth, weight loss, cystitis, and genital itching. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you experience these symptoms.
Rare but Serious Symptoms
If you experience any of the following, stop taking the medication and seek medical attention immediately:
- Hypoglycemia: Lightheadedness, fatigue, sweating, hunger, shaking of limbs
- Pyelonephritis or Related Conditions: Chills, fever, flank pain, back pain, redness/swelling/pain in the genital area (e.g., Fournier's gangrene, sepsis)
- Dehydration: Thirst, dry mouth, excessive urination, dizziness/lightheadedness
- Ketoacidosis: Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, severe dry mouth, malaise
- Shock or Anaphylaxis: Facial pallor, cold sweat, dizziness upon standing
These symptoms do not encompass all possible adverse reactions. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any other concerning symptoms.
Storing Conditions
Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
Do not store the remainder and consult your pharmacy or medical institution how to discard it.
